Obvious to me that ECU was the better team but did not appear to be as much better as I expected. Stats were pretty close. ECU should be a bowl team for sure but the Marshall and MT games will be tough ones in conference play.

You may not have your QB by then and they could have some monsters.

ODU plays a CUSA schedule next year. Heinicke will still be here. I would love to see FAU on the schedule.

ODU will be a top pick for Cusa next season......outside of USM there will no teams left with any Cusa history of winning championships.

But La Tech has won 2 WAC championships, which was arguably the tougher league.

Outside of Boise and occasionally Fresno - there was nobody else in the WAC worth a darn. Hawaii got creamed that year they had a good team and made it to the BCS bowl. I also thoroughly enjoyed watching the loud mouthed Boise fans talk up their 10-2 team that came in thinking they would crush lowly 7-5 ECU. Glad CJ went off on them like he did.

Wait, so they have good players per your own words, and it was 31-6 until they scored on our 2nd team in the last minute.

Quote:If not for the long KO run back and the INT shortly after that set up the Hardy score, this game would have been dead even.

Was the score close? Stats don't mean much when our defense is ball hawking and giving us short fields to score on or when we put the 2nd team including QB in with 11 minutes to go in the fourth and their only score was on our back ups etc.

Quote:ECU should be a bowl team for sure

Really. We are 2-0 with two 2+ TD victories. We are the clear favorites to win this conference.

Quote:Marshall and MT games will be tough ones in conference play.

No one thinks we will walk through decent teams, we didn't walk through many teams last year, but the difference is we handle buisness. 7-1 co east champs last year. I've certainly seen nothing in 2 games to suggest otherwise.

RE: ECU vs FAU.... The Thread
The game should have been 38-6... Hardy's one-handed TD catch that got ruled incomplete, plus the garbage TD vs our 2nd team D with under a minute to go (which was NOT a catch... can't believe they didn't review it. He didn't have possession when he went out of bounds).

I'll take a 31-13 victory over anybody, though. As Ruff says...all wins are hard. I feel a little better about the defense after last night. Even though we're going up against Virginia Tech next week, I'm just relieved to finally see a traditional, pro-style offense line up against us. I like our chances.

RE: ECU vs FAU.... The Thread
It's one of those things I wasn't real impressed with our performance and yet we had backups in the entire 4th quarter and won by 18. So I might just have unrealistic expectations. I thought we were going to score in the 40's last night, but then again I also thought FAU would score in the 20's, so it wasn't all bad. All my questions about how good this team is will be answered next week.

Yep, Shane didn't play in the 4th quarter. Ruff is a classy guy.

Which is why he didn't press the refs about FAU's only TD.

F these refs. They need to get fined.

I can't comment about that TD but I wasn't impressed with a lot of things they did. Of course they are C-USA refs and it's not like they've ever been good.

We won it before Boise got GREAT (2001), but while Tulsa, SMU, Rice, and UTEP were in the WAC.... and after Boise left (2011). Could have won it last year, but came in 3rd because Utah St and San Jose St were both Top 25 teams. The WAC was AT LEAST equal to CUSA... Boise made a tougher league to win the championship since they were almost always a Top 10 team.

Two picks and a long kick off return gave us short fields, thus redicing yardage. had long run called back and a couple of fumbles. and, the first string offense and defense didn't play in the 4th quarter.

FAU was at least good on defense. Miami of Ohio was not good in any phase of the game.

Granted ECU did not look Thursday night, but they did what they needed to do to win. Thursday games in college are usually sloppy because of the quick turnaround in play. College teams simply do not have the time to scheme and prepare the way the pro's do on Thursday night. If I was watching ECU play and was not a fan, I would also reserve judgement before I said they are a good team. Having said that however, good teams find a way to win and beat the teams they are supposed to beat. Looking forward to seeing how Marshall does this Saturday.

Seriously. We get nit picked over 2+ TD wins, both of which we were comfortably ahead in the 4th quarter by

18 vs ODU
24 vs FAU

It's not like the games were ever really in doubt in the 2nd halfs and if we wanted to put our foot on FAU last night and beat them 42-6 or whatever we probably could have. Wouldn't have accomplished anything more than we already did, and perhaps have got someone injured.

We must have saw two different games........ECU lead 31-6 after three quarters and cleared its bench in the fourth quarter. FAU scored its lone TD with less than minute to play on a fourth down play and against ECU third and fourth team players. FAU two field goals were around 45 yards out. Please......there are no Gardner Webb teams on our schedule. Regardless, good luck to Marshall and to our haters put love in your heart you will feel much better:)

Game against VT will finally give me a verdict on this ECU team. Congrats on the win and the Fox 1 broadcast seemed like a solid production.

Seriously, what is the official reasoning by that whistle blown, when FAU was still rushing to their defensive side, when East Carolina was trying to hurry it up?

Not a knock on FAU, but that should've been a penalty or something. Not a free pass.

On a media note, that was the first Fox Sports-1 game I have watched. Looked pretty good--a lot like Fox Regional coverage (except it was going out nationwide), but with a better halftime show. Its going to be an excellent network to land games on.
