RE: Perception of UTSA Football?
When you sit back and think about this team, I think many of you will understand why they are successful. The vast majority of these guys have STARTED together for 3 full seasons (4 if you count the year they played against each other all year long). They are a very seasoned group of players that has experienced what it's like to play against top 10 teams, middle of the road teams, and bottom feeders. These guys have spent more time with each other than many of us have with our own siblings growing up. They're a tight knit group of guys that seemingly ALL have the same mentality and team goals, and all of them have a chip on their shoulder (towards the outside world) for one reason or another.

Comparatively speaking, in established programs, most players (even the good ones) don't even sniff the starting role until they are juniors (or even seniors). In real-time game experience, UTSA's players are leaps and bounds ahead of probably every single team in the nation.

This unique experience level will slowly start to disappear after this season, then suddenly be gone after next season. This is something the coaching staff should be thinking about in their long term plans.

It's nice to hear positive comments, a big change from what we heard preseason. Before the season, 99% of the comments on here regarding UTSA were negative, many even saying we wouldn't win a single game. Amazing what a good season can do. We are glad to call C-USA home and look forward to many years of success and building new rivalries.

Pretty good start in a new conference:
Women's Cross Country - Conference champs (co-champs with Tulsa)
Volleyball - Regular Season Champs and Tournament Champs
Football - West champs (hopefully, c'mon Tulane!...but no worse than second in the west)
Basketball - Well, this is FOOTBALL country!

Anytime someone is put down and told they aren't good enough, best thing they can do is just do it anyway and watch the jaws drop. Very good season, Runners.

Can we trade ULM and TxState for the Roadrunners? Might even throw in South Alabama.

Seriously, a solid season and way to shake things up.

UTSA has gained a lot of respect in my eyes. I think most of the negative comments were due to the chest pounding from UTSA fans before the season based on last season's 8-4 record, which was mostly against DII schools. I for one just thought it was a little annoying. I think UTSA has a really great thing going and a good shot to be good for years to come. You guys are having one hell of a season and have made leaps and bounds for only being in your 3rd year.

Congrats and Go Mean Green!

RE: Perception of UTSA Football?
It's been a great start for UTSA athletics in CUSA so far. I said before the season that the FB team could easily go 7-5. Only games I was wrong on so far were Rice & Tulsa. Thought those wins/loses would have been opposite of what actually happened. But consistency is what matters most to me. If we come back next year and have a losing season then we are who everyone thought we were & just had some lucky wins in 2013. As far as bball...something needs to change & change ASAP. But the future is bright for UTSA.

Have to say I am impressed. I was already impressed with your crowds last year, but was skeptical of your talent due to a non FBS schedule. This year you have proven that you have the talent to compete now, and we all know Coker is the real deal. Judging by attendance it looks like you guys have already built a solid fan base in San Antonio. It's only a matter of time until those numbers keep growing. Very glad to have you guys.

RE: Perception of UTSA Football?
I watched videos of your teams from 2012 and I thought you would do well in CUSA, I liked the support at home ,which already has your attendance toward the top of the league.

UTSA, NT, MT, and LaTech are all good additions to the league. I think the new power in CUSA football will come from these additions.

I hope CUSA does well down the road, the league has given ECU a home for many years and I will miss a lot of the old rivals.

Well I've been to a couple of games at the dome. The tailgating is greatt and your team is doing well. The game atmosphere needs to improve. Your program is on the right track. Glad coker came to norfolk to see a start up program at the fcs level and then did his as an fbs startup program. Jealous of that.

Your band is one of the best I have seen in a long time. Well trained just stop going fo the cheesy stuff. I think it could continue to improve.

Look forard to you guys beating us next year. And please do something about your basketball teams. Kubby for the womens is a former odu assistant. Hell turn your wbb program around.

Considering I have only cared about the Roadrunners since we got the announcement of them coming to CUSA and then knowing how "new" of a program they are for football anyways, I am kind of blown away at how far they have come in what.... 3 years?

I admit I am uneducated about how good their other sports are.

Although basketball has never been our strong suit we have had several decent teams and made a handful of tournament appearances after winning Southland Conf tourneys. The great Lynn Hickey is a former basketball coach for Texas A&M and I know she is going to do everything she can to fix the current situation. UTSA is moving so fast (football, facility projects, quest for Tier 1) it understandable that some areas need a bit more attention.

ECU 55 UNC 31,
ECU 42 NCSU 28,
Tulane 36 ECU 33,
UTSA 10 Tulane 7.

Yes I'm very impressed with UTSA. No smoke and mirrors here.

Any talk of an on campus stadium?

Not for many many years. Just signed another sweetheart deal with the city to play at the alamodome for another decade.

The team performance was better than I thought it would be. Kudos.

The attendance was disappointing. I thought the city would really rally around it. That is not to say that this year's attendance was dismal. But when the team has a 1-8 record- what will happen then? Guess we can all speculate.

Most of the support and attendance is driven by the support it gets from the city. Out of 25k in attendance, at least 23.5k are NOT students. The student section is reserved for 15k if I'm correct. The most that may have showed this season is about 5-8k.

Appreciate your token of respect, but I've gotta respond to what you referred to as "chest-thumping". Did some 'Runner faithful come on here predicting a winning record? Yes, but how is that commensurate with chest thumping? That's nothing more than an expression of faith in your program. Most of us actually predicted a record of around .500. There were more detractors on the CUSAbbs threads from other schools who were predicting us to finish last and have 1 or 2 wins on the whole season than there were 'Runner faithful who predicted a winning season.

Some of us responded in rebuttal to those who pegged us dead last in the conference, and those who did so were likewise pegged as chest thumpers, and were lectured to about how we didn't know what we were getting ourselves into with the upgrade in our SOS. All I'm saying is this... We were proud of what we had accomplished coming into this season, were confident in our team, and weren't afraid to stand up in defense of our team. With all due respect, if you expected us to just sit back and allow everyone to verbally beat down our program and potential without responding, you're completely underestimating the passion we have for our football program.

UTSA has been very impressive, but I have to say I was absolutely killed on the old scout WAC board for suggesting that I didn't expect the inaugural season attendance to last and that attendance would settle in to a respectable G5 range ~30k.
