I imagine David Duggan, Chip Lindsey, and Blake Anderson will get a good look. I would be happy with any of those. We should be able to keep most of our staff in place.

Who is OSU's OC?

Anderson has a pretty steep buyout at Arky State, they got tired of losing coaches every year so they did a good job on his contract.

After this last season, went down from $3 million to $2 million.

Butt hurt much. You keep beating that dead horse. I respect Bower immensely but it was time for him to go. The program has had two 9+ win seasons in 8 seasons since he left. We had 4 during his 17 seasons. We're slightly ahead of Bower's pace. Plus, we had a 12-win season in the last five. We never won more than nine under Bower.

With all due respect, during Bower's 17 years how many of those were 11 game seasons with no CCG played as well as his early years when 4 home games were the norm and 5 was considered a bonus. Also he regularly had 3 SEC games on the schedule where we now we play 1. That comparison of 9 win seasons holds no relevance as far as I'm concerned.

Bower also had the advantage of coaching when the USM was the go to non-SEC school in the region, since then new FBS schools have sprung up like mushrooms and recruits have a lot more options. Bower's generic offense and refusal to change was his undoing.

And how many of those seasons were in a conference that wasn't on the same level as USM. We dominated the first four seasons of C-USA for one reason only. We were far and away the best program. We had a better budget than most; we had the history of success that most didn't. We had the fanbase that most didn't. It didn't matter much who the coach was.

Dave Duggan - current DC
Chip Lindsey - OC this past season and current ASU OC
Oklahoma St OC - our last 3 successful HCs have had that previous title
Jay Hopson - FCS Alcorn St HC, former USM asst coach and DC, turned Alcorn St from a 2-3 win team into back to back SWAC champs. 4 years and they've gone 4-7, 9-3, 10-3, 9-3

Interesting list. Hopson's success certainly caught my attention.

I think USM head coach is a better gig. If he repeats the same season at USM, he was going to get a HUGE head coaching job. What is his career goals?!! He just pissed away his 3 years at USM.

And what would've happened if he had flopped next season at USM? One has to "get while the gettin's good". As an OC in the NFL a head coaching job is just a step away. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as the Saints head coach in a few years.

Winning 7 games with Jeff's schedule was like winning 10 with our schedule now.

All signs are pointing to a fantastic year next year with an outstanding Senior QB returning. I don't understand this move.

If Duggan doesn't get the job then he will be gone too.

Monken has coached in the NFL before. It appears he covets a job in the big leagues. I can't fault him for that.

Wow! What a classless move by Monken.

Tech should make a huge push again for Dantzler. He tweeted this morning how much it meant for him to be hosted at Coach Monken's home. Talked about what a real person Monken was. He is gone like most of the other recruits. USM set themselves up for all of this garbage when they fired Bower. Traded a great, loyal coach for this crap.

I don't think Tech is interested in Dantzler.

I think So Miss should try to get a FCS coach. There's some proven head coaches that would probably take the job.

It was a buddy thing. Or it was at least partially a buddy thing.

Quote:Monken will join the staff of new Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter.

"It's difficult to leave after all the hard work," Monken said. "This is about Dirk Koetter. My decision, it was hard. These are two great places. I can't be two great places at once."

McGillis said he plans to conduct a national search to find his replacement and expects to make a hire by next weekend.

At the risk of sounding ghoulish I can't help but wonder what Zac Woodfin's thinking.
