The entire Pac 12 will want to play in that new stadium. It will be good for everyone, except UNLV.
Hahahaha. I totally agree with you. I can’t believe UNLV is hazing their stadium to play in an NFL stadium when they could schedule 2 neutral site games per year in it. Houston scheduled a game like that vs Oklahoma. I think it’s so tacky for colleges like Miami to not have their own stadium. It’s cheap. BTW, are you guys going to be taking over the Chargers old stadium?
Yes, we already have. An announcement for an extension of the lease is coming by the new year. Furthermore, SDSU is currently designing its new stadium, which will be released in December. Also have offered the purchase the Mission Valley site and expand the campus there. Unfortunately, due to a competing Soccer initiative, things are moving slow, and one of two things will happen. First, the Council can directly adopt the SDSU plan (likely). If they do not, it goes to vote in November of 2018. It will get passed by voters, if the City Council does not directly adopt. This will allows SDSU to expand enrollment to 50,000 students as well.
There is a group of investors that SDSU was negotiating with for two years. Had SDSU stayed onboard, the plan for a campus expansion, commercial build out, and joint use stadium would have been directly adopted. However, SDSU backed out of the deal, and accused the investment group of dishonesty, and collusion with the Mayors office (Yes, seriously). Now, the Mayor and a City Council member are being investigated for leaking confidential information to the investment group.
The City Council voted against the Soccer folks as a result, and said that had SDSU been on board, it would have passed.
Bottom line, SDSU will be building a new OCS, expanding their campus to the Mission Valley site, as it is 2 miles away from the main campus.
