RE: OT: Officially The Official Soccer Thread
Squad looked very good for the first 60 minutes or so before Senegal started to make the game chippy. Carter-Vickers return was huge defensively, as Senegal really didn't get anything more than a half look at goal until the final few minutes when they were pouring men forward.

Critical win too because Saudi Arabia shocked Ecuador 2-1. We lead the group heading into the Final Group Stage match with Saudi Arabia, while Ecuador and Senegal will play at the same time. We've not clinched a spot yet in the knockout round, but we can't finish worse than 3rd, and 4 points should probably be enough to guarantee we're one of the 3rd place teams that qualify. Still, matchup wise we want to win the group. 3rd place faces likely Uraguay and 2nd places likely faces Mexico, which until this year has owned us at the younger levels.

I know that he's only playing up 3 years and going against other youth prospects, but he really does look like he's already something special every single game I watch.

And just like that, he's signed a pre-contract with Werder Bremen for the day he turns 18 (this coming February). He'll match up with Isaiah Young who is already gaining a reputation at Werder...3 goals and 6 assists in the youth side since starting up in January.

Sweet. Doesn't Senegal supposed to have some pretty good up and comers? Also, I'm guessing Dortmund didn't allow Pulisic to participate? Bummer.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can once you've competed in enough senior team matches.

Pulisic is needed for the WC Qualifiers starting June 8. U20 WC goes through mid June

I agree; however, I read he was named to the u20 squad. Dortmund still has the Pokal left May 27 so I figure he's staying in Germany to prepare for that. Either that of Dortmund doesn't view the U20 competition as important and doesn't want to see it's player potentially get hurt, etc...

He was on the 35 man Prelim roster just in case but he hadn't played for the U20s in a long while and wasnt on the team at the U20 CONCACAF Championships that qualified for the WC. He was never a serious option for the U20s.

Well, my NPSL side is pretty much out of the running for first in their conference, 1st place side somehow has a former Cuba NT player on their squad just lighting up their competition.

Pokalsieger!!!

Borussia Dortmund win the DFB Pokal. Hertha enters Europa while SC Freiburg will enter Europa qualifying. Very curious to see what happens to Thomas Tuchel's contract now that they won a trophy.

You can, but its extremely rare. Club's don't have to release for Youth Competitions, but they do in international window's for Senior Level. National teams are not likely to want a player playing U20's and Senior level in the same time frame either.

In this case, the US included Pulisic on the preliminary roster just in case, but he was never going to play.

Side note: US Roster for the Friendly with Venezuela and the World Cup Qualifiers coming up with Trinidad and Mexico was released today. All the usual suspects, no surprises. I suspect we'll see a vastly different roster for Gold Cup play in July.

I thought Hertha and Koln were already going to the Europa Group stage with no side heading for the Europa playoffs? At least if you're to believe the Budesliga table on ESPN FC. They had the top 6 places highlighted, where last year they had 7 highlighted.

Arriola is a little surprising, but he probably won't get much time. Going to be interesting, I think we'll need at least 4 points from this rotation to remain in a position to avoid the playoff.

Bundesliga.com also only had the top 6 highlighted, but Freiburg gets in on the 7th place rule: 7th place qualifying

Freiburg's website (German only) confirms: SC Freiburg

Ran across this graphic on Twitter. Cool scatterplot for those who say that possession means nothing. Taken from the 2016-2017 season, there's a clear correlation between goal differential and time of possession among teams from seven different leagues over the course of a season.
