My initial, knee jerk reaction is that this is a mistake, and that Hans Joachim Watzke is Jeff Compher's German half-brother. More details behind the rumors are sure to emerge, but I think it's going to prove to be a mistake in the long run.

Crazy...that's a dumb move for sure, and one that could set them back quite a bit. From all accounts, Tuchel was the person keeping most of the young talent at the team from looking elsewhere. I could easily see Reus heading to Liverpool now...

I wonder if Southampton would make a run at Tuchel since Puel has been getting lambasted by the supporters groups and press on the South Coast.

An open letter from Watzke on the dismissal: http://www.bvb.de/eng/News/Overview/Open...l-BVB-fans

I hadn't read anything about it, but the Tuchel to Southampton stuff seems to be flaring up...that would be a VERY interesting hire given the talent already there. I think he could find some great ways to use Cedric, Boufal, Tadic, and Rodriguez together. I would think he could probably bring a player or two along who would be able to fill regular minutes (Pulisic or Sahin) too.

In other transfer news, looks like Brooks is heading to Wolfsburg for some reason. Largest American transfer fee at €17M.

Brooks really likes the new Passat. That's why hes moving to Wolfsburg.

Tuchel would be a coup for SOTON. Hard to see the Saints dishing out the money needed for Pulisic. He'd probably go for over 20 million euro and their transfer record is 18 million euro

Hey, with every year they're in the Prem, they've got more in the coffers...€20-€30M isn't out of the question now when you look at the spending by other teams in the 7-11 range in the last few years. Not to mentioned they've been a net positive on transfers in each of the last 5 years...hell, they're still living off that Lambert/Lovren/Lallana money that Liverpool set on fire a few years back 03-lmfao. If I had to guess, Van Djik will probably get them about £20M this window, so they'll have money to work with. Not saying they would ever go after him, just think they'll be moving a bit more money in this window. They can't keep trying to compete by selling off £40M guys and getting back £7-10M guys, and their end goal is Europa, they've made that clear.

Im not saying they cant afford him. Its just not their MO to buy high for youngsters. They tend to buy low or grow them in the academy and then sell off for profits....and spend for more for players closer to the finished product.

Completely agree, they actually have one of the more business forward models in upper-level European competition. Very few can pull a net positive year in/year out and still be in the upper half of the table...that Boufal signing (that record you mentioned) may have turned them away from younger players for a spell since that hasn't seemed to pan out the way they had hoped.

U20's do really terrible things to New Zealand in a 6-0 Round of 16 victory. Sargent, Eboisse, Lennon, Glad, Trusty, and Kunga with the goals.

U20's move on to the quarterfinals, where they will face Venezuela in a unique doubleheader Sunday Morning, just a few hours after the Senior NT plays Venezuela in a friendly. Venezuela is considered the tournament favorites now as the only remaining unbeaten side after France was knocked out by Italy today.

Quarterfinal time is 1:50am ET Sunday.

That was an EXTREMELY fun game to watch. Sargent and Ebobisse both look like potential starters on the USMNT by the next qualification cycle the way that they've been showing out recently.

I'm MORE than alright with that pricetag. Apparently some outlets are valuing him at £70M...I mean, you cant make this up 03-lmfao. The PL Media money is making everyone dumb as hell.

NBA is a little different bc their CBA limits how much the players get to a percentage of total revenue. These teams will spend every cent/shilling/euro to just get the player without the player necessarily benefiting from their price tag in their salary beyond a few more thousand a week.

Weird, wild stuff happening in the lower divisions of German football. 1860 Munich lost their 2. Bundesliga relegation playoff to SSV Jahn Regensburg, thus sending them to 3. Liga. However, the club's majority shareholder, Hasan Ismaik, is refusing to finance the club's license to play in 3. Liga. So because of that refusal, 1860 Munich will instead be relegated to Regionalliga Bayern. The Regionalliga is Germany's 4th-tier football league.

SC Paderborn was to be relegated to the Regionalliga Nord. However, because 1860 Munich refused to play in 3. Liga, SC Paderborn will remain.

US Draws Venezuela in a rather dull friendly 1-1. Pulisic with the goal.

U20's play Venezuela in the World Cup Quarters in just under 2 hours.

U20's got out played for 120 minutes, but thanks to great defending, forced extra time. Looked like the Belgium game from 2014. 0-0 after regulation. Lose 2-1 after extra time

ITs outrageous. Not bc everybody is overpriced now but because this is overpriced for even this overvalued era.
