Didn't he make it pretty clear he was going to play for Mexico...despite never living one single day in Mexico?
He recently, as in only a few minutes before the 40 man roster was released, made it clear he was open to choosing the USA instead.
https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/soccer/...cup-roster
What changed? He did just sign a new contract with FC Dallas. Was he using "I want to play for Mexico" as a way to try to insinuate that he needed more money or would leave for Liga MX?

That whole situation is weird as hell. His parents moved over here when they were kids, so his family has literally been in the US for 50 years yet he still wants to play for Mexico?

Just like the NBA and their new tv money player contracts
NBA is a little different bc their CBA limits how much the players get to a percentage of total revenue. These teams will spend every cent/shilling/euro to just get the player without the player necessarily benefiting from their price tag in their salary beyond a few more thousand a week.
Van Djik to Man City for £60M...I mean...the dude hasn't played since January and was above average, but dear lord.
ITs outrageous. Not bc everybody is overpriced now but because this is overpriced for even this overvalued era.
Props to Soton though...they've been fleecing everyone in the PL for the past half decade.

I grew up in South Texas with a lot of people whose family has been here for 3,4,5 generations who root for Mexico

Oh I know it happens all the time, it just doesn't make sense to me. My family has been over here since the early 1900's (they fought in WW1 for the Germans then the next generation fought on our side in WW2), both sides were German and you wouldn't catch me rooting for them.

Speaking of Germany...let's talk about what's going on at 1860 Munich. For the second straight year, they found themselves in the relegation playoff from the 2. Bundesliga after a remarkable turn of events in the last few minutes of the last day of the year found them unable to reach safety. Then, after getting a 1-0 away win at SSV Jahn Regensburg, they lost the home match 2-0 and found themselves relegated to the 3. Liga. Could it get worse for one of Germany's most historic clubs?
Turns out, it could. The 3. Liga requires a 5 to 10 Mil euro licensing fee (I've seen both figures in article's I've read). 1860 Munich is a cash-strapped club that lost their 50% share in the ownership of Allianz Arena due to cash flow problems several years ago, but the licensing fee shouldn't have been an issue because the club does have a wealthy investor that owns 60% of the shares (but voting rights are capped at 49% due to Deutsche Fussball-Liga regulations). HOWEVER...the investor stated that he would not provide any money to the club unless they gave him more voting rights, which again, is not allowed through regulations.
The result? 1860 were unable to pay the fee for their license, and have thus been relegated again to 4th division Regionalliga Bayern. The investor is still with the club and it's likely to cause further issues in the future.

I swear I saw another poster post something about this not 24 hours ago. Hmm...I wonder who that was?

Liga. So because of that refusal, 1860 Munich will instead be relegated to Regionalliga Bayern. The Regionalliga is Germany's 4th-tier football league.
SC Paderborn was to be relegated to the Regionalliga Nord. However, because 1860 Munich refused to play in 3. Liga, SC Paderborn will remain.

With 4 countries in the Middle East terminating relations with Qatar, is the 2022 World Cup in danger of being moved once again?

If they did I would guess England or Italy.

There are only a few countries in the world that have the stadia to host a World Cup on Short Notice. Outside of the US, England Italy and probably Germany would be the only others.
If they did pull, I think what you might see is the European nations pulling for it to be awarded to the US, so they could in turn host 2026 (UEFA has been making a big deal about hosting in 2030 lately.)

I think he was angling for a US Gold Cup call up when he said it. He's smart enough to know the US does not have a true future at Keeper once Howard and Guzan are out of the picture, and the best way to get himself involved in that is threaten to play for Mexico and force the US To call him up sooner.

I dont believe it can go to Europe in 2022 unless they change FIFA regulations about a confederation hosting 2 consecutive WCs.
The US could do it for sure....Japan and South Korea could do it, China and Australia too if you want to keep it in AFC and not mess with US/Mexico 2026

Ethan Horvath is probably the future. Him or Jonathan Klimsmann, and thr latter will trigger everyone.

Australia is a really good call, and I completely forgot about the consecutive rule, unless they considered Russia in Asia (which realistically Russia would be better served moving over to the AFC).
I doubt that they want to touch the USA/Mexico/Canada partnership after all of the fanfare surrounding it and the ability to appease three federations at once (even though we all know they would rather it only be in the US due to attendance and revenue from '94 still being the highest all-time). It's going to have to be in a highly developed country, and Italy and England came to mind simply because they haven't hosted for quite some time. I doubt they would want to re-hash SK/Japan, France, or Germany that quickly just to keep things up and no one else has the ability to host outside of Spain, but with their FIFA fair play issues on the club side (and the lack of oversight by Spanish Football admin.) I don't think they'd be an option either.

Klinsmann looked SUPER questionable throughout the U20 WC...Horvath is the odds on favorite if his career arc continues in its current path.

Russia is part of UEFA so they'd be out for 2022. Australia bid for 2022 originally and, to be honest, probably deserves it more than Qatar or the USA. They'd do a great job.
2018----Russia(ugh)
2022----Australia
2026----US/Mexico/Canada
2030----Uruguay/Argentina for Centennial Tournament
2034----England/Wales/Scotland
2038----China
2042----Somewhere in Africa
Booom. We are done.

This Van Dijk/Liverpool saga has been VERY interesting to watch. What just happened with LFC may actually give other unenthusiastic sellers a framework to battle back against the buy anyone clubs.

I know it's only the 1st half, but it appears the US is back to blowing must win games.
