SBN's 2018 AAC FB Power Rankings
The finale to all the individual 2018 AAC FB team previews. A really good read. For a summary, this is how they stack up the teams, by tier. But there is plenty more to read, and plenty of charts and graphs to peruse:
Tier 1
1. UCF
2. Memphis
3. Houston
Tier 2
4. Temple
5. USF
6. Navy
7. SMU
Tier 3
8. Tulane
9. Tulsa
10. Cincinnati
Tier 4
11. UConn
12. ECU

Temple and SMU belong in Tier 3.
Cincinnati and Tulsa belong in the Pillow Fight Division with UCONN and ECU.

If any of the prognosticators are close to correct, Scotty Mo is done as ECU's head coach.

I'm mildly confident that Tulsa will be improved this season with better QB play.

UH is still going to improve a lot this offseason. The race for the West is going to be fun.

RE: SBN's 2018 AAC FB Power Rankings
I don't think there's any run away team this year. New staff, and still somewhat on the fence about their hire, I think their DC is more qualified then their HC, UCF is very lucky to get such a heralded defensive coach there as a DC. I think UCF loses 3-4 games this year. Memphis will take a step back, inevitable when a QB like that is gone even though I'm sure their fans will line up to tell you they won't miss a beat with the new guy. USF obviously is going to miss Flowers but they have no shortage of talent.
I think Temple and Navy really have a chance to bump them out of that Tier 1 group this year.
You would like to think 3 years into a job we would be making a move up but that would surprise me. I expect we put more points up this year for a change but can't imagine a whole terrible lot of improvement on the defensive side. Just hard to see when we were SO bad last year.

Rick Smith has said the same thing. He sees 5-7 due to the lack of defense, most especially in the secondary. I never make predictions but I agree we probably don't improve a lot. I hope I'm wrong.

Healthy Rock Armstead
Healthy Ventell Bryant
Isaiah Wright doing Isaiah Wright things
Frankie Juice entrenched as the starting QB
Really 4/5 of the OL is back with a healthy Jovahn Fair. Jaelin Robinson is the only projected starter with little to no starting experience, but he's been the first OL off the bench so he has enough playing experience.
Gonna be exciting to see what this offense can do.

Navy have been limping past the weaker end of AAC West teams lately. All it takes is for a few close games to turn and that team misses a bowl.
They're always competitive, but I think they'll hang around 6-7 wins until they get the next "golden QB" prospect.

Record-wise, I'm thinking a slight step back for Memphis, Navy, UCF, USF.
About the same for SMU, Tulane, ECU, Tulsa, UConn.
Improvement for Houston, Temple and Cincinnati.
West could be wide open. Fla. twins in the East?
6 - 8 Bowl eligible is the range, I'd guess. Play ball!

You're right - our success from 2003-2014 will disappear once we get into the schedules of the AAC.
And then after that, no way we'll perform after Keenan Reynolds leaves.
We're just lucky to be here.
I'll let you in on a little secret - last year WAS the time that the few close games turned. Uncharacteristic -- grossly uncharacteristic -- penalties and turnovers.
I'll let you in on another little secret - Malcolm Perry IS the next golden QB prospect. Zach Abey rushed to second place in the Navy single season rushing recordbooks and we benched him for Perry (who came in to his first start and "limped" to 282 yards rushing vs one of those AAC West weaker end teams) and have now moved Abey to WR.

See it exactly the same except a step back for Smu and Ecu. They lose too much. I agree that Houston, Temple and Cincy should all be better. I like USF in the East and Houston in the west. It will be a meh type year.

I have been out of the loop for a while on the state of UH football, but does anyone know what is the status of Deontay Anderson's transfer from UM? Still waiting on the NCAA to grant his waiver?
There wasn't any mention of Anderson playing this coming season in this article, so I wonder if his addition would have swayed the author's opinion as to the Coog's chances this year?

There is just almost no reason for any optimism for ECU football in 2018, but at least Compher is gone so either Mo's gonna pull off a miracle or be fired.

RE: SBN's 2018 AAC FB Power Rankings
:pbjtime:With the fear of being labeled a homer (I will proudly wear that label though), Navy is always underestimated. Coach Ken has "unfinished" business to take care of this season and it would not surprise me at all see Navy come out swinging at or near the top again this year. As SlhNavy91 has previously mentioned, Malcom Perry is the real deal. Navy's offense will be a battering ram. The defense will be just fine too.
Having just come back from Annapolis and listening to our AD speak, I am more confident today about our team than I was a week ago. In any case, I expect the AAC West to be as exciting as ever. I just love this league!
