Nope. You're correct. Our Owls are in!

Rice is 12-14-2. UAB is 12-16 and Middle Tennessee State is 11-16-1 and play each other 2 more times. So even if Rice loses both, we'll be ahead of either UAB or Middle Tennessee regardless of how their final two games play out.

Game 2 is underway!

WG puts slumping Proctor in the leadoff spot -- Walt's recommendation, perhaps? :-) -- and it pays off immediately with a double.

Chandler singles him in ... and after two were out, Cruz doubled-in Chandler.

Rice scores first -- for a nice change -- and leads 2-0, heading to B1.

B1:

Acker pitching. "With a black glove, here. He's pitched with three different gloves this year ... a light glove and a red-orange one. He calls it orange."

Leadoff Panther walks on 3-2 pitch.

Runner goes on the first pitch. Dicaprio "pulls out the hometown hose" and nails him! Yay!!

> JP says Chuck Pool just tweeted out JP's call of Aviles' grand slam -- with video!! -- on the Rice Baseball twitter account. Yay!! https://twitter.com/RiceBaseball/status/...8652367872 <

2-2 pitch singled to right.

2-2 pitch also singled to right. "The first three batters have reached (base)."

4-pitch walk loads the bases! Grrrr.

WG mound visit.

"The hook is fouled back." ... "Grounded hard to 3rd; Comeaux knocks it down." Wins the race to the 3rd base bag. Yay!!!

"Acker bends, but does not break."

2-0, Rice ... after 1.

T2:

Sarchet singled!

Gneiting grounds into 4-6-3 DP.

Aviles grounder dribbles down the 3B line ... good play gets the out on a "bang-bang play" at first. Sigh.

2-0, Rice ... heading to B2.

RE: Rain in Miami
Mike, you jinxed us by running off. Acker throwing batting practice in the 2nd inning: single-single-single (RBI)- single-HBP (RBI)-sac fly (RBI)-single(RBI)

Amador then comes in and promptly reloads the bases with another HBP, but catches a break with an inning-ending doubleplay.

Fiu leads 4-2....and it could have been much, much worse.

Proctor singles to leadoff.
Chandler singles. Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs. Can Ford and Ryan suddenly be coming out of their extended slumps? Both are 2-2 now.
Comeaux forced Proctor at 3B.
DiCaprio singled to load the bases with one out. Personally, I would have sent Ryan home on that one and forced the defense to make a play.
Cruz reached on an E-4, but the runs scores 02-13-banana and the bases stay loaded.
Dunlap grounded into a double play. Please tell me why our hottest hitter, Sarchet, is batting #7, especially against a RHP? Arghhhhhhhhh.
3 hits and an error and we only score one run. Good grief.

Rice trails 3-4 heading to the bottom of the third inning.

Willy is not doing any better than Acker in his second inning of work:
Walk (caught stealing), walk, strikeout, single, single (RBI)....and that started with the bottom half of the lineup.

In just 2.2 innings pitched, we've given up 9 hits, 4 BBs and 5 runs...and was saved by an inning-ending, bases loaded DP.

Kravetz now in.

Evan caught a break with a line shot right at Sarchet for the final out. We're throwing batting practice this game.

Sarchet grounded out to 1B.
Gneiting grounded out to 2B.
Aviles lined out to LF. At least he's hit the ball hard his last two ABs.

Rice trails 3-5 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning. FIU have collected 7 hits and 4 walks over the last 2 innings against us. That's a recipe for disaster.

1-2-3 inning for Evan, with 2 Ks.

New FIU pitcher, Brown (7 app, 12.1 IP, 5.84 ERA, .277 BAA, 5 BBs, 4 Ks). They're pitching their dregs and conserving their 5 - 6 quality guys for next week...
Proctor ground out.
Chandler walk.
Comeaux strikeout; Chandler caught stealing

Rice still trails 3-5 heading to the bottom of the fifth.

DiCap walks and Cruz doubles to put two dudes in scoring position (T6, no out) still trailing 3-5.

We have been leaving too many dudes on base.

RE: Rain in Miami
Evan looking really strong-- another 1-2-3 inning, with another two strikeoutsKKKK and a foul out.

DiCaprio leadoff walk.
Cruz doubled. Runners on 2B and 3B, no outs.
New FIU pitcher, Sexton again (we saw him first game). They're very clearly saving their top pitchers for Biloxi, and don't care about this series...
Time for Andrew to break out of his mini-slump...
Osborne pinch running for Dom...
Dunlap struck out looking. Ugh. Had to put the ball in play there.
Sarchet struck out swinging. You've got to be kidding.
Gneiting struck out looking.
Absolute ineptitude. Runners on 2B and 3B, no outs. All we have to do is put the ball in play, and we strike out 3 consecutive times against a pitcher with a 4.50 ERA, and who we bombed in Game 1. And we lost Dom for the game.
