$260 million endowment; over 10k students; 119th national university. Institutionally, they are right there for sure. Their on-campus arena only seats just over 4k, but they have played some games at PPG Paints Arena (which seats 19k). With St. John's moving its conference games to MSG next year, all Big East teams will have around 10k arenas to host Big East games. I would think that would be a requirement for them. Not sure if they would be able to elevate their basketball budget (which was just inside the top-100), but it would undoubtedly need to in order to rent PPG consistently.
Pittsburgh would definitely be a better preference for the Eastern schools. As long as the institutional-fit is there (like Saint Louis and Dayton), there always is potential for a program to make that jump - if given the proper investment. Fordham is another example, but it is clear that they don't want to commit the same level of resources to men's basketball.

Fordham you would assume is a non starter due to location....
Another sleeper that I always thought- Detroit- not now obviously but 15-20 years down the road. Talk about a natural fit in the footprint.

At first glance, yes, but they only have a $51 million endowment, under 5k students, and is #25 in Midwest (not National). While they are a Catholic school in a metropolitan area, the optics don't align with what the current BE membership is. Additionally, they weren't even in the top-150 in men's basketball budgets.
I would think that they are probably not even in the top-10 for long-term potential candidates for the Big East.

It’s a shame Northeastern doesn’t take basketball seriously. They’re not Catholic but it’s in the footprint.

it's amazing with some of the schools, if they had taken things seriously, where they could be right now.

Tufts is another one. I attended Norteastern for two summers and two semesters. I attended four basketball games. The fan support is almost non existent and Matthews arena is not that bad but it’s not up to Big East standards. The Huskies are lucky to be in the CAA. Men’s hockey is supported better and Beanpot (Northeastern, Boston University, Boston College and Harvard) is a big deal.

The MA DI schools did a couple of back-to-back-to-back games at the Garden a few years back. Both times the school with the largest attendance was the one that came from furthest away (UMass...but potentially it was because a lot of UMass alums are in Boston). Northeastern, BU, and even BC couldn't get many people to go, despite the game taking place in Boston.

The bitter pills of the northeast are the likes of Hofstra and Northeastern for getting their CAA ticket then dropping football, and Boston keeping AmEast allegedly hostage over certain issues; potentially to blame for the break-off to CAA/F.
All three, with the exception of BU hockey should be in D3.

Arizona losing to UCLA by 21 is not noteworthy in and of itself. Having a lost weekend in Los(t) Angeles is. We're that much closer to a one-bid Pac-12.

WCC looks more like 1 bid now as San Francisco lost to San Diego this evening along with St Mary's falling to Pepperdine.

Penn beat Saint Joseph’s to go undefeated in the Big Five.
It took almost fifteen minutes for Tennessee State to hit ten points in getting beaten like a drum by Murray State.
