No, Win or lose everybody will forget about it the next week.

Later in the season Being ranked and beating major P5 or rank P5 is viewed infinitely more important than beating a Sunbelt

Bingo.

Not sure why/how that fact seems to be lost on people.

Ok. Ranked matchup on CBS against SEC school trump's this.

But when does that EVER happen?

Usually they are body bag games. This ain't that.

Picture what a 3 OT thriller in that time slot with over 10,000 fans will look like to recruits, TV contract negotiations...

Because I think that's what we're going to get folks.

Riley, it is an important game today, right now. Very few if any are arguing that point. Eight weeks from now (if we're all still playing) people will have a hard time remembering if these two even played each other. As we all know, it's not how the season starts it's how it ends that matters.

Go Herd!

I don’t know about that. I think you have the presumptive C-USA champ vs the Sun Belt champ in this game, which this year is 2/3 of the autobid. If some rumors are true and Marshall and BYU are waiting on some contingencies to sign a game at the end of the year, I think this game and BYU could be putting us in position for the autobid this year (assuming we hold serve).

Having said that, this is not the biggest CUSA game in a decade. Houston vs Southern Miss title game in 2011 was bigger. #7 Houston had a win-and-in for the BCS. And though we didn’t know it at the time, it was the last CUSA game Southern Miss would ever really be Southern Miss.

Well I've actually commented about that 2011 CUSA championship.

That was the only one I could think of in the last decade that could be more important than this.

And just think about that, that was my question. Decade, it's already been a decade since 2011. Wow.

RE: POLL: How important is the Marshall vs App State game?
It would be in a regular year where both teams played their full OOC schedule and college football wasn’t only being played by half the teams. Plus you have guys opting out, don’t know who will be ruled out day to day. Etc.

The argument that App wouldn’t be ranked if everyone was playing and that Marshall wouldn’t be getting votes can be made by a lot of people with validity. We also don’t have any idea if these are the best teams in their conferences this year as each has only played one game.

At the END of this season then this MIGHT be a very, very important game. But the fact that a lot of teams haven't even played game #1 yet, muuuuuuuuch is yet to be determined.

RE: POLL: How important is the Marshall vs App State game?
Yes it is a big game but the hyperbole is a bit much. IMHO, Appy St. isn’t even the best looking team in the Sunbelt right now. The time slot and network is cherry and we are in dire need of a prime time victory but let’s pump the brakes before we roll out a poll. This Saturday as a whole May well be one of the most important TV weekends in a decade for CUSA as we command the stage for 4 straight games but I wouldn’t put all the marbles on Marshall Appy st

I think a lot of you are selling Charlotte short. I think Charlotte had a lot to do with Apps performance. But yeah, it’s hart to argue with three teams that beat p5 teams.

RE: POLL: How important is the Marshall vs App State game?
UNCC’s “close loss” to App is confusing language. App had three turnovers (one on the one yard line), gave up a KO return for TD, and still won by 15.

The better question may be is this the biggest game ever between the two conferences? Could be, certainly will be the most viewed and one of the seldom matchups in which one team is ranked and the other would be with an upset victory.

App will need to clean up the mistakes from week one, especially turnovers and contain Marshall’s QB and RB to win. Marshall will need to protect the QB and force App to throw the ball 30 times or more.

These could be two of the top five olines in the G5.

I say this is the most important game from a perception changing CUSA perspective since the 2011 CUSA championship, when we had two ranked top 25 teams gutting it out on ESPN.

Nationally televised CBS games at 3:30 p.m. EST just don't get handed out every year.

On top of that, we have a ranked opponent, the winner guaranteed to cement a spot in the top 25 going forward.

This is a major rub opportunity for both conferences.

2011 was decades ago?

Cmom man, surely you are joking.

“Cement a Top 25 going forward, game of the decade, Presumptive CUSA Champ”

You beat a legit Top 10 P5 and maybe you cement a spot if you only lose 1 more game.

CFP? You think they would let either of these teams plays in the Playoff?

RE: POLL: How important is the Marshall vs App State game?
"Is the Marshall vs App State game Saturday on CBS the most important game for CUSA and Sun Belt in decades?"
No, no and hell no. Sunbelt won three more important games than this just last week. Even leaving out the many P5 wins the two conferences have gotten, there have been bigger G5 matchups. Several C-USA Champ Games were bigger (2011 mentioned). I would put the 2003 TCU @ USM game as bigger. Just being on CBS in a good slot once isn't going to change anything. Even if you win new fans, they won't be able to find your games the rest of the year. Best thing it could do for us is have great rankings that could be used to show TV Execs that people will tune into our games if they can find them and they are good games. All the ESPN games Saturday can contribute to that too. Most important between the two conferences? Maybe.

RE: POLL: How important is the Marshall vs App State game?
For the no side, give me some games in the last 20 years which offer the kind of spotlight we will have on Saturday?

I can only think of two.

The App State vs Michigan upset
The 2011 CUSA Championship

This game has the potential to garner more eyes than either of those.

Nah.

Big game, sure. Rooting hard for the Herd in this one.

But biggest game ever? Probably not.

The person responding may have dementia, or maybe they’re talking to their other personalities. Because I remember that game, great game indeed!

But fr, it’s a bogged down season as it stands in one of the craziest pandemics of our lifetime. The implications and national spotlight for a ranked team game, huge.
