That's a great question! Screw Baker and his flying monkeys.

I wonder, however, if ESPN would be willing to go around the organization they have such a solid relationship with and that can do so much for them.

It doesn't take a legal action to be seen as that from some, as evident on twitter and the SBC boards.

Heck, beating the NCAA in court (or more likely in advance of court) may actually change the current baby persona to that of a hero.

ESPN, on the other hand, should be thrilled - they have plenty of content now to discuss and should rip Baker and the NCAA a new one all night. i have a feeling , knowing the VA AG, this is not the end of this. he does not lie down easily.

I feel kind of opposite. I hate the timing of the announcement as a distraction for us and the players, but have hope the HCCC delivered the "news" to the team, that it doesn't change anything, a bunch of coach speak, now go do your job and kill Marshall. I think the news helps Marshall more than hurts them tonight, but I hope we pound them harder now.

Winning is key. No doubt about that.

But no party can make arbitrary and capricious “rules” and think they are legally binding on another party, especially if they impose demonstrable harm to one party. The NCAA is screwing JMU…and now “Charlie” is trying to screw the VA AG and tell him to lie down and like it.

Time for the “baby” gloves to come off.

Here's an ESPN story on how difficult it will be for JMU to get into a bowl.

I went to USA today home page, sports, scrolled down to college football, and was able to read it. Can't explain why it asked me to pay when I clicked the same link from the board

If the current system isn't run by the NCAA, then why do they have so much power preventing teams in "transition"?

Great article and just adds to the media blitz and it will only get stronger if we keep winning.

Valid question. I think this article explains it well.

https://footballscoop.com/news/ncaa-deni...l-eligible

Basically, it's the other schools. The member schools of FBS make the rules and the NCAA enforces those rules, even though they don't make the rules themselves. While the NCAA doesn't run the bowls, the same FBS member schools do.

I just wish we'd put all this talk to rest and keep on winning, things will take care of themselves.

Quote:In his first team meeting before this season, Cignetti told his players, "Look, we've got to take control of what we control, control the controllables, and if we take care of that, then a lot can happen."

"I'm a firm believer that common sense overrides all the rules," Cignetti said.

"I want to play in the conference championship game," Cignetti said. "That's our goal -- to be the conference champ. We already beat last year's champ [the Dukes won 16-14 at Troy on Sept. 16]. We want to play for the conference championship at JMU. But there's a lot of football to be played, so let's not get too far ahead of ourselves."

I suppose, if nothing else, the state could sponsor a game between us and Liberty or VT. That'd settle a few questions.

Didn't the SWAC and MEAC invent a bowl since they couldn't ever win a FCD playoff game? Approved and sanctioned now but someone had to kick that off out of the blue

My guess is that the only thing stopping a private bowl is getting it televised (many options) and it wouldn't ever be in the official NCAA records (big whoop)....oh and the NCAA might diss us forever...that's no bueno

Barstool personality PFT Commenter, a JMU grad, had a great little rant about JMU on his podcast yesterday. Barstool sponsors a bowl game and he said he wants to invite JMU

I watched last years Barstools bowl and it definitely added a fun aspect to the typical boring midweek bowl game

I’ve seen a little chatter ESPN could add another bowl game to get JMU in if it came down to it, they did something similar in 2021 I believe?

I’d prefer other opponents though.
