Abortion kills a life, kills a child, stops a beating human heart, and all of this happens without the child having a choice.
2917 more children were killed today.
If it was all about just spitting the little critter out of the womb, that would be one thing. That thing that comes out, however, grows and develops for the next 18 years or so, and either becomes a productive, useful member of society, or a burden on it. And if its not wanted in the first place, it has a much greater chance of not receiving the proper attention and parenting it needs to contribue to this world, and simply becomes a drain on societies' resources, diminishing the quality of life for not just itself, but for everyone. And sure people should be punished for their own irresponsibilty, but when that irresponsibilty drifts over and affects the lives of detached bystanders, its a problem and morally wrong.
We euthanize thousands of cute little post-natal puppies in this world each day merely because they are unwanted. None of these little animals had parents who had prehensile thumbs or the financial resources to afford condoms or open packages of birth control pills. Humans can, but don't. And if we can stomach with the huge amounts of animal euthanization that occurs, we should be able to stomach euthanize an unwanted or probably ultimately useless fetus once in a while.
Let's face it - the world has enough people. Most civilized nations are approaching a steady state with near zero growth rates. In third world countries, however, the populations are still increasing at an alarming rate. How much should the earth have to put up with? This 'don't kill your unborn child' was a good rule to live by in the olden days, when infant mortality rates were higher and life expectancies were shorter, but we've evolved past that point through modern medicine. We don't need to live by 2+ millenia old rules anymore.
