It might. Coaches and universities have never been afraid of the NCAA and their ability to investigate a program. The FBI is an entirely different animal, though.

Pick that scab that is the shoe companies and the AAU and it going to get ugly and widespread.

follow the money
Why aren't KY, NC, Duke, Kansas and UCLA in there?
Why is the FBI even going after BB at all? Don't they have something better to do these days?

Kentucky, North Carolina and Duke are Nike schools. UCLA just switched from Adidas to Under Armour.
Kansas is Adidas, so stay tuned for Jayhawk potential violations.

If none of this touches Calipari then what's the point. He's NCAA basketball corruption personified. He created an entire system in plain sight now that no one even bothers to question anymore for Pete's sake. He's like Teflon Don. You go after the elephants. Like Eliot Ness and Capone. Look at his history and they still put him in the HOF.

Tip of the iceberg:
9. This affidavit . . . . Because this affidavit is being submitted for the limited purpose of establishing probable cause, it does not include all of the facts that I have learned during the course of the investigation.

To anyone who follows big time college sports, the charges and allegations are no surprise. The FBI's involvement is a bit surprising, and it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Maybe some assistants and behind the scenes guy get punished and maybe a high profile coach has to resign, but I doubt it changes how "business" is done moving forward. Players, coaches, shoe companies, etc. will still be in cahoots.

Beat me to the punch on that one. Just last week I posted that he was the face of college BB and that said a lot about the state of the sport.

Yep. Much more to come on this. Athletic programs may crumble in response to this. NCAA basketball may not be the same after this.
We've all known this for a while. Shoe companies and AAU have destroyed college basketball.

I couldn't agree more. Zero accountability and held up as the pinnacle of the sport. The majority of the sports press are complicit in his glorification.

O lordy, tho. It's gotta be the FBI B or C team--the ones who would rather be busting big time crooks who hurt folks. Have you ever met FBI agents? There are levels of those guys, depending on their innate capabilities.
They came to town here and couldn't even bust this Chinese guy for sextrafficking and anyone could have done that.

RE: FBI Arrests Several NCAA Coaches in Crackdown On College Basketball Corruption
As if we didn't know this already. I predict that some heads will roll at some Universities, but that's about it. Think about Reggie Bush at USC or the booster at Michigan. Heck, look at Penn State - they are #4 in the country right now in FB and I cannot imagine a worse scandal.
There are two things underlying all of this:
1. College BB is rapidly becoming irrelevant. Sorry, but every year that goes by when there are more and more 'one-and-dones' just confirms what everyone knows: the game lacks any compelling players who stay more than one year....and for the really good players, college BB is a place to make sure you showcase your potential and....not get hurt.
2. I don't think it's a coincidence that this involves Adidas which has been really aggressive in trying to grow its U.S. market share.
So, you have a aggressive 'buyer' and a desperate 'seller'. Great environment for which payola needs to flourish.
Nobody is getting the death penalty. If Penn State didn't get the death penalty, then there is no way any of these Universities will get the death penalty.
