Why we feel we need to set our sights this low is beyond me. #1 market by far for college hoops, decades running. Top 5 attendance in men's college hoops decades running. Member of the most prestigious conference in college hoops, by far. State of the art arena to play in. Top 10 tradition in the sport. And we feel that Chris Mack is the answer??
Just because he married a chick from Louisville?
Eff that guy. We can do better.
Will Tyra even try? I know Jurich would. That is the question.
Mack is the best candidate and the hottest name right. He has Xavier #3 in the country and a possible 1 seed. Who would you suggest? Please don't say Donovan or Brad Stevens because that ain't happening
Mack is also knee deep in connections to the FBI scandal -- having one of his players named in one of the latest leaks of info, and coming from the Sean Miller Arizona coaching tree.
Do you really think U of L can bring that back onto itself?
Do you really think U of L can endure the thuggish antics that consistently pop up in Mack's tenure at Xavier?
I don't ...
I agree with you about Brad Stevens. That guy is set.
I am not so sure about Billy Donovan. He's on a collision course with a pink slip, it's just a matter of time. I know this ... Tom Jurich would go after him. I'd make him say no, before I lowered my sights.
I'd also do the same with Fred Hoiberg.
From the college ranks, my personal choice would be Chris Beard at Texas Tech. All he does is win. And he hasn't been linked to any of this FBI stuff, nor has he the exposure to it that many other college coaches have, given his relative "newness" to being a head coach at Division I. But he plays an exciting brand of basketball, and wins with his system, and the players he has inherited. Not relying on pulling 5 star ******** who ultimately will bring down your program.
Yes ... he just signed an extension at Texas Tech, paying him $3 mill a year ... but if I got turned down by Billy Donovan or Fred Hoiberg, I'd make Beard say no to all that I listed in another post.
Other coaches I think are better choices than Mack WITHOUT the potential thug baggage, and FBI taint ...
... Mike White - Florida
... Kevin Keats - NC State
... Danny Hurley - Rhode Island
... Jaime Dixon - TCU
... Mark Few - Gonzaga (admittedly a longshot)
... Jim Belien - Michigan (age, and longshot, but he's very underrated)
The bottom line is there are lots of possibilities, to settle for Chris Mack, who is riskier than hell, given the reputation we need to badly repair.
