Comey was appointed FBI Director by Obama.

They're starting to give contradictory versions of what occurred in the Obama FBI. McCabe is the Clinton camp; Comey is the Obama camp.

This is a fight for survival within one political party as the uneasy alliance between the Clinton and Obama camps is under stress.

Still having a hard time making your "Obama Camp" connection. I'll grant you Obama made him FBI Director and that he holds Obama in high regard as a president. I've seen nowhere that they shared much else than a professional relationship. There are accounts that they butted heads, but they respected each others stance. Certainly nothing that makes me think Comey would fall on his sword supporting Obama if he felt he was wrong. Comey’s reputation and career was built on playing down the political middle. As a prosecutor, he had respect from both sides of the aisle. That's how he was selected by Bush to be a Federal DA and later Deputy Attorney General under Ashcroft. Experience and bipartisan support is what lead to Obama bringing him out of the private sector to be FBI Director- Not some sort of chumminess or shared agenda. Comey was even suggested as a Supreme Court Judge replacement for Souter in 2009, but was getting too much congressional flack for being associated with Bush.

I can't speak on McCabe. I don't know much about the man.

I think I have a pretty good idea of who Comey is and what he is about. If you take a a step back from the media on both sides, the #resist/#bluewave folks and the #MAGA/#trumptrain folks, the politicians with the obvious allegiances & agendas, I think the picture becomes less murky. The sum of his career doesn't add up to lying and bias for personal or political gain. I'm supposed to believe that he just woke up one day and disregarded everything he represented to sway an election? Throw away his honor and career to defend the Clinton's? Comey is an easy and convenient mark. I have little doubt that Comey is being used, chewed up, and spit out, simply for political purposes. As Comey said, he faced no-win choices that he knew he would have to answer for. Right or wrong, I don't think any of his choices were unreasonable at the time. With the benefitof hindsight, it is easy to sit in judgment.

I have seen a couple of interviews Comey has done and came away very impressed. I still think he made the wrong call (a series of wrong calls) during the 2016 campaign, but hearing him walk through his thought process was very interesting, particularly regarding Lynch. I'm still not sure it was prudent for the College to hire him right now but his interviews have increased my confidence in his abilities as an adjunct.

I am interested in reading the report as well. My gut says no real new light will be shined on past events. The right will declare it a bombshell showing clear deceit. The left will claim that the report is clearly politically biased and that their is nothing substantive. Ultimately, nothing will be proven criminal, it will paint Comey in a poor light, and it will result in a very expensive, tax payer backed scolding, conveniently done with hindsight, on what Comey did wrong. He's already admitted in the million interviews since his book that he had to make some decisions that had no winning outcome. He even admitted to wishing he could make different decisions looking back. I don't believe the report is going to contain the "deep state" collusion that will send Clinton, Obama, and Comey to prison like the #Trumptrain idiots i read on twitter are banking on.

I wonder whats next? First it was "release the memo"- which was a whole bunch of nothing. Then that went away and made room for "Just wait till this IG report comes out..." If this turn's out to be not much of anything, I wonder what the next distraction will be?

I think you're off on a couple of things here.

First, this is the second IG report, and there will be more.

Second, the memo was not a bunch of nothing.

Third, the first IG report referred Comey's #2 for possible criminal charges.

Finally, this thread has not been about criminal charges. This thread has been about the decision to hire Comey to teach an ethics class at our alma mater while this report was in the works, and before this report was made public, as some of us had a concern that our school was tone deaf / turned a blind eye on this subject, leading to an unforced error.

The universe that I watch is indicating that the leaked info directly relates to "Trump-Russia".

With this indictment, logic says that Comey's #2 will get indicted on very similar grounds.

Interesting how the Comey FBI used media articles to convince the Court to allow the FBI to spy on a US citizen. Of course, if the information in the relied-upon articles was "planted" by the FBI and others, that would be akin to money-laundering. That would be an interesting topic in an ethics class.

Gates’ testimony has served his relationship with Wm and Mary well. He’s a Weener alright among other things. If Comey needs a sub to stand in for him in the ethics class; he’s my choice. Inspiration to the max for all those ever so thoughtful Tribsters.
